One
of the best ways to see Alaska is on the Alaska Railroad.
The
Alaska Railroad operates between Anchorage, Seward, and Whittier
(to the south) and Anchorage, Talkeetna, Denali, and Fairbanks
(to the north). With
award-winning service, spectacular scenery, Alaska Railroad
trains feature large picture windows, comfortable seating,
dining cars, restrooms, and luggage cars ensure your rail
adventure will be a lasting memory. Local Alaskan high school
students who have attended a special railroad class are on board
offering commentary on a personal level.
We are here to help you plan
your trip abroad the Alaska Railroad, the last full service
railroad in the United States.
Seward/Anchorage
The Coastal Classic rail route
travels south of Anchorage along the spectacular Turnagain Arm
then rises through the Kenai Peninsula's scenic Turnagain and
Moose Passes before arriving in the quaint seaside town of
Seward. The train travels roughly 130 miles in each direction
and takes about four hours one-way. On your trip you will have
an excellent chance to see glaciers and wildlife such as moose,
Dall Sheep, and beluga whales.
Anchorage/Denali/Fairbanks
The Denali Star rail route travels north of Anchorage along the Knik Arm and through the towns of Wasilla and Talkeetna. Heading north from Talkeetna you will pass over Hurricane Gulch and Broad Pass before arriving at the railroad station at Denali National Park. The bridge at Hurricane spans 918 feet, some 296 feet over the Chulitna River.
The train travels roughly 265 miles in each direction and takes
about seven and half hours one-way. Your trip from Denali
Park to Fairbanks will take you through Healy and Nenana and
several other small communities. Nearly everyone breaks the
train trip up and stays in Denali National Park or Talkeetna for
a few nights. Your railroad journey offers a number of great
views of Mt. McKinley, and an excellent chance to see wildlife
such as moose, bald eagles, and bear. If you would like we
can arrange accommodations to continue your trip on into
Fairbanks. The trip from Denali to Fairbanks takes about
three and half hours and travels roughly 85 miles.
